A cable installer allegedly duped a customer into handing over her cell phone for a purported test, but instead sent an explicit video she had recorded of herself to his own phone, police said Tuesday.
Logan Edward Gray-McCannon, 37, of Hemet, was allegedly working as a contractor with ITC Service Group Acquisition and was making an installation on behalf of GFiber, formerly Google Fiber, in early August.
A woman who had requested internet service be installed at her apartment told investigators the technician asked to use her cell phone to “test the wifi” signal, according to the Irvine Police Department.
“After 10 to 15 minutes, the victim checked on the installer, but she could not see what he was doing with the phone,” according to a police statement. “Later, she discovered that a sexually explicit video she had sent to her partner via text message had also been sent from her phone to another device through iMessage.”
Although the woman had deleted the video from her phone, it later appeared on her linked iPad, police said.
The victim determined the phone to which the video was sent belonged to the contractor who had been in her home, police said.
Gray-McCannon was arrested at his home on Friday and booked on suspicion of commercial burglary, sharing a private sexual image of a person without consent and unauthorized computer access.
Detectives believe there may be additional victims and released a photo of the suspect on the IPD website in case anyone has had a similar interaction with him. Anyone with information about the case was urged to contact Detective Sanders at jsanders@cityofirvine.org.
