A man who allegedly charged at sheriff’s deputies while wielding a knife was fatally shot Monday in Claremont.
The shooting was reported around 9:40 a.m. in the 800 block of South Indian Hill Boulevard, according to the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department.
Sheriff’s officials said deputies were in the area conducting a pre-planned eviction operation when they learned of a theft report nearby.
“The deputies were alerted by a patron of a nearby gas station of a possible theft which was occurring,” according to a department statement. “Deputies approached the gas station on foot and were suddenly charged by a male adult armed with a knife, at which point a deputy involved shooting occurred.”
The suspect was pronounced dead at the scene.
No deputies or civilians were injured, according to the sheriff’s department.
