  1. Why did they take this precious man’s life ? If you taxed him he could be hailed. He was such a good man and the sole caregiver of his mother. He lost his brother to brain cancer. Chris was a good man and my friend. [Verse 1]
If a friend said, “Chris, I need you,”
You were halfway out the door.
Always there to lend a hand,
    Never keeping score.
You could get us all laughing
When the day had been too tough.
You had a way of making sure
    Everybody felt your love.

    [Chorus]
    You always showed up,
    You always came through.
    When somebody needed a friend,
We knew we could count on you.
Now we’re sharing all our stories,
And the same thing keeps coming up—
Chris, you had a heart for people,
    And you always showed up.

    [Verse 2]
    Your childhood friends remember
The way you ran that field,
The young man rapping with his friends,
The joy you made them feel.
Through all the years, that smile of yours
    Could turn a day around.
You brought a little joy with you
    Whenever we were down.

    [Chorus]
    You always showed up,
    You always came through.
    When somebody needed a friend,
We knew we could count on you.
Now we’re sharing all our stories,
And the same thing keeps coming up—
Chris, you had a heart for people,
    And you always showed up.

    [Verse 3]
    When cancer took your brother,
    You and your mama grieved.
    She carried so much sorrow,
Still gave the love you’d need.
And when she got sick herself,
You stayed there by her side.
You showed how much you loved her—
A love you didn’t have to hide.

    [Verse 4]
When my mom was on the floor,
    Unable to get up,
You came right in beside her
    And gently picked her up.
Light as a feather in your arms,
    She never forgot that day.
    A superhero in her eyes—
    That’s how you’ll always stay.

    [Bridge]
A hard worker, a loving son,
A friend both tried and true.
    So many hearts are hurting
Because so many hearts loved you.
We wish we had another day,
    Another laugh to share.
It’s hard to reach for someone
    Who was always, always there.

    [Final Chorus]
    You always showed up,
    You always came through.
You made so many people feel
    They mattered just to you.
Now we’ll say your name with love,
    Even when our voices break.
Chris, you gave us something special
    That goodbye can’t take away.

    [Outro]
We’ll miss your smile, we’ll miss your laugh,
The things you’d say and do.
    Everybody’s friend—
    There’s only one of you.
