A vehicle-pedestrian crash that killed a woman who was struck while lying in a road in Long Beach was under investigation Tuesday.
The fatal crash was reported at about 10:50 p.m. Monday in the area of Pacific Avenue and Sixth Street, according to the Long Beach Police Department.
Officers arrived on scene to find the victim with injuries to her upper body lying in the roadway, police said. Long Beach Fire Department personnel responded and pronounced her dead.
“The preliminary investigation revealed a 2002 Chevrolet Tahoe, driven by a 25-year-old resident of Long Beach, was traveling northbound on Pacific Avenue when it struck the pedestrian, who was lying in the roadway for unknown reasons,” according to a police statement. “The driver of the Tahoe immediately stopped and called 911.”
The woman who was driving the vehicle cooperated with investigators, police said. The victim’s name was not immediately available.
Authorities determined that neither speed nor impaired driving were factors in the collision.
Pacific Avenue from Sixth Street to Seventh Street was closed as officers investigated the collision.
