Two people were killed in a collision Friday when a vehicle struck a tree in Encino.

A white Honda Civic struck a tree around 2:02 a.m. Friday near Balboa and Burbank boulevards, a Los Angeles Police Department spokesperson said.

Two people were pronounced dead at the scene, police said. No further details on their identities were immediately available.

Los Angeles Fire Department personnel responded to the scene.

Victor Cruz, a witness to the collision, said he saw the vehicle drive around a curve at around 60 miles per hour before driving off the road and colliding with the tree. Cruz said he attempted to help the people in the car and saw the collision caused the engine to move onto the passenger seat.

Authorities have not yet confirmed details on the collision or a cause of death.

Video from the scene showed the vehicle nearly broken in half with both sides of the car on either side of the tree.

Law enforcement personnel were still on the scene as of 3 a.m.
