A longtime chef at Nobu Malibu was killed in a crash Saturday when a vehicle driven by a 16-year-old boy struck his parked vehicle on Pacific Coast Highway.

The crash occurred at about 7 a.m. Saturday in the 22600 block of Pacific Coast Highway, according to a watch commander at the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department’s Lost Hills/Malibu station.

One person was pronounced dead at the scene, the watch commander said. The victim’s name was not immediately released.

According to the California Post, that person was a 51-year-old chef who had worked at Nobu Malibu, located in the vicinity of the crash site, since the acclaimed Japanese restaurant’s early days.

The California Highway Patrol issued a Sigalert at 7:51 a.m., closing the two left lanes of southbound PCH at Carbon Canyon Road.

According to 99.1 FM, an SUV driven by a 16-year-old boy was going at least 50 miles per hour when it swerved across the “fog line” on PCH — the white line separating the roadway from the shoulder — and struck a parked vehicle.

Road conditions at the time were not immediately known, and it was unclear what caused the motorist to swerve.
