One person died in a vehicle collision on the San Gabriel River (605) Freeway Tuesday when an SUV apparently struck a stationary vehicle on the roadway.
The multi-vehicle collision occurred around 12:29 a.m. Tuesday on the San Gabriel River (605) Freeway just south of the Artesia (91) Freeway, a California Highway Patrol spokesperson said.
Video from the scene shows a Cadillac SUV traveling at a high-speed and colliding with a sedan that was in the process of being towed, causing the vehicles to emanate sparks and smoke. The tow truck driver is then seen running from the collision to avoid debris.
CHP officers and Los Angeles County Fire Department personnel responded to the collision and closed the road temporarily.
The tow truck driver is seen attempting to stop traffic on the freeway before authorities arrive.
CHP officers can be seen administering a sobriety test to one driver at the scene. Another vehicle is seen having drifted into an embankment with one man trying to escape.
Officials did not provide any official details on the circumstances of the collision.
A SigAlert was issued at 2:01 a.m. for the northbound San Gabriel River Freeway just south of Artesia Freeway for one hour.
No further information on the collision was immediately available.
