One person died in a multi-vehicle collision involving a Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department SUV Thursday in Commerce.
While responding to a medical call for someone who was not breathing in Cudahy, a sheriff’s SUV collided with another car around 1:20 a.m. Thursday at Atlantic Boulevard and Sheila Street in Commerce, a sheriff’s department spokesperson said.
A third vehicle then collided with the second car involved in the initial crash. Each of the two civilian vehicles was occupied by one adult.
The driver of the car struck by the deputy was pronounced dead at the scene, the sheriff’s department said. The driver of the third vehicle was not injured.
Other deputies responding to the initial call stopped to administer aid to the victims of the crash until Los Angeles County Fire Department personnel arrived. The deputy involved in the collision was transported to a hospital with minor injuries.
Video from the scene showed the deputy vehicle with its airbags deployed and the intersection closed as deputies investigated.
No further information was immediately available.
