Evacuation warnings were issued for three zones Thursday as a brush fire burned near the Golden State (5) Freeway south of Gorman, prompting the closure of both directions of it through the Grapevine.

The Danny Fire was burning north of Smokey Bear Road and was estimated at five to 10 acres, with a moderate rate of spread reported by a helicopter over the scene, according to Watch Duty, a non-profit online fire monitoring organization.

Evacuation warnings were formally issued for zones GOR-E004-A, GOR-HUNGRYVALLEY-A and GOR-HUNGRYVALLEY-B at approximately 4:45 p.m., according to the Genasys evacuation map, as reported by Watch Duty.

The warnings advised residents to prepare for possible evacuation but did not constitute mandatory evacuation orders.

Both northbound and southbound lanes of the Golden State Freeway were reported closed through the Grapevine.

The cause of the fire and whether any structures were threatened were not immediately known.
