A woman killed in a Wilmington intersection while walking her dog was publicly identified Saturday.
A vehicle struck the woman and dog around 2:09 a.m. on Sept. 30 at Pacific Coast Highway and Alameda Street, according to the Los Angeles Police Department.
The victim was identified by the Los Angeles County medical examiner’s office as 37-year-old Raquel Hernandez Cruz, who died in a hospital of blunt force injuries in what was termed a homicide.
A Los Angeles Fire Department spokesman said paramedics made one ambulance transport from the scene of a crash involving a Toyota Prius and that animal control officials were notified of an injured dog.
A witness to the crash said a man was taken into custody at the scene by police, but the LAPD has not said whether anyone was arrested.
Video from the scene showed a motionless dog lying in the roadway, a stopped tractor-trailer and emergency personnel speaking with witnesses.
