The two young boys who were killed in an apparently botched double-murder-suicide attempt in the Pico-Union area and the father who allegedly committed the murder were identified Tuesday by family members.
The two young boys were identified by their grandparents as 4-year-old Jimmy Gramajo and 11-year-old Osmani Gramajo, according to NBC4.
The suspect was identified as Adolfo Gramajo, 35, by his parents, according to NBC4, but the Los Angeles Police Department has not confirmed the name of the suspect.
Adolfo Gramajo is suspected of fatally shooting his two sons shortly before 1 p.m. Sunday in the area of Venice Boulevard and Catalina Street, LAPD officials said. Police said the man turned the gun on himself after shooting the boys, but survived and was hospitalized in unknown condition.
The two boys were pronounced dead at a hospital, police said.
Los Angeles County Department of Medical Examiner records show that both boys died in the manner of a homicide, and that Jimmy Gramajo Bonilla, 4, died from a ”close range gunshot wound of the head” and Osmani Gramajo Bonilla, 11, died from a ”gunshot wound of the head.”
It was unclear what prompted the shooting.
NBC4 reported that Adolfo Gramajo was on a custody visit with his children and shot them after taking them to McDonald’s.
Video from the scene shows community members and friends creating a makeshift altar at the site of the shooting, with candles, flowers and balloons laid down on a sidewalk next to the intersection.
Anyone with information about the fatal shooting was urged to contact LAPD Juvenile Division Detective Wilfredo Ortiz at 213-486-0530. Tipsters who prefer to remain anonymous can call Crime Stoppers at 800-222-8477 or visit lacrimestoppers.org.
