A report of a gun on campus prompted the lockdown of Bell Gardens High School Wednesday, and at least one student was detained as police investigated the potential threat.

The high school at 6119 Agra St. was locked down Wednesday morning, according to the Bell Gardens Police Department.

Bell Gardens police said on social media they were at the campus for an “investigation of a reported hand gun on campus.” Officers confirmed that no shooting had occurred and all students were safe.

Police did not say how many people, if any, were taken into custody, but video from the scene showed one student being detained and placed into a police cruiser. KTLA5, citing an unnamed school employee, reported that three students had been detained.

It was unclear if a weapon was actually recovered.

Once the investigation concluded, students were released around noon at the Jaboneria Road and Watcher Street gate, adjacent to the football field.

Broadcast reports showed a large group of parents and others gathered outside the school throughout the morning as police searched the campus.

Parents seeking more details regarding students were instructed to contact Montebello Unified School District Police Services at 323-887-7916.
