Palm Springs police Friday touted the ways in which its technological resources — including automated license-plate readers and drones — aided officers in locating a missing woman in medical distress.
The woman was reported missing in her vehicle experiencing an unspecified medical condition, according to the Palm Springs Police Department.
Personnel from the department’s Real Time Intelligent Center — a public safety and surveillance hub — immediately used its automated license-plate readers and the network of CCTV cameras to “identify her vehicle, track its movements and determine its last known location,” police said.
Officers then deployed a police drone called Halo 2 to locate the vehicle and guide responding officers to the area.
Arriving officers made contact with the woman who requested medical assistance and helped her to reunite with her family. Her identity was not disclosed.
Police said the coordinated efforts of patrol officers, crime analysts and the department’s RTIC resulted in “a successful outcome in approximately 30 minutes” without the “need for an extensive search and maximizing available police resources.”
