Something exploded as work was being done in the bathroom of a Van Nuys apartment Thursday, injuring three people.
Los Angeles Fire Department crews responded just before 10 a.m. Thursday to a report of smoke coming from an apartment building in the 14500 block of Hartland Avenue, west of Van Nuys Boulevard, a department spokeswoman said.
“It was some work being done on a bathroom that caused some sort of explosion,” said LAFD spokeswoman Jennifer Middleton.
Three people were taken to a hospital, but their ages, genders and conditions were not immediately available.
Inspectors from the Los Angeles Department of Building and Safety were summoned to investigate and check the building’s structural integrity.
