A 79-year-old man killed in a hit-and-run crash in the Harbor Gateway area of South Los Angeles was publicly identified Monday.
Paramedics and police officers responded at 11:10 p.m. Friday to the collision at 726 W. Imperial Highway, between Hoover Street and Vermont Avenue, according to the Los Angeles Police Department.
The Los Angeles County medical examiner’s office identified the victim as Richmond Wilson, whose place of residence was not immediately available.
The victim was crossing the street when an unidentified vehicle struck him at high speed, with its driver choosing to leave the scene instead of stopping to render aid as required by law, according to police.
The pedestrian was pronounced dead at the scene, the result of traumatic injuries, according to the medical examiner’s office.
A description of the suspect vehicle was not immediately available.
