Detectives continued an investigation Friday into a fireworks explosion that left a man injured in Avocado Heights.
Sheriff’s deputies responded to a reported explosion around 7 p.m. Thursday inside a residence in the 1000 block of Bunbury Drive and discovered a man with firework-related injuries, a spokesman for the Sheriff’s Information Bureau told City News Service. He was taken to a hospital and listed in critical condition.
Los Angeles County firefighters arrived at the scene and discovered several explosive devices inside the residence, resulting in an evacuation of the neighborhood that affected 15 surrounding homes. Members of the LASD’s Arson and Explosives detail were called to the scene to investigate the cause of the explosion, according to the sheriff’s department.
Residents were cleared to return to their homes at about 11 p.m. after authorities determined the neighborhood was no longer at risk.
