Detectives continued an investigation Friday into a fireworks explosion that left one man injured in Avocado Heights.

Deputies of the Los Angeles Sheriff’s Department responded to a call regarding an explosion at around 7:00 p.m. inside a residence on the 1000 block of Bunbury Drive and discovered a man with firework-related injuries, a spokesman for the Sheriff’s Information Bureau told City News Service.

Firefighters from the Los Angeles Fire Department arrived at the scene and discovered several explosive devices inside the residence, resulting in an immediate evacuation of the neighborhood that affected 15 surrounding homes.

Members of the LASD’s Arson and Explosives detail arrived to the scene and began an investigation into the cause of the explosion, according to the sheriff’s department.

Residents were cleared to return to their homes at about 11 p.m. after authorities determined that the neighborhood was no longer at risk.

Paramedics took the injured man to a hospital, where he was in critical condition.

The cause of the explosion was not disclosed due to the ongoing investigation.

Video of the scene showed LASD officials standing near an LASD Bomb Squad vehicle trailer and worried bystanders watching from a distance.
