Los Angeles police Chief Charlie Beck will travel to the Big Apple this week for a counter-terrorism conference hosted by his predecessor, New York City Police Commissioner William Bratton.
Beck will attend the Operation Sentry conference hosted by the New York City Police Department at the Park Hyatt New York Hotel from Wednesday through Friday.
Beck’s request for travel was approved by the Police Commission today. A city reports said airfare will be $426 and lodging $1,000. He also will get $60 per day in spending money.
Assistant Chief Earl Paysinger will be the acting chief while Beck is out of town.
In a letter inviting Beck to the conference, Bratton said this year’s event would focus on “current threats, including the implication of foreign fighters returning from Syria and the growing level of sophistication being observed in social-media based radicalization.”
Speakers will include Director of National Intelligence James R. Clapper, London’s Metropolitan Police commissioner, Sir Bernard Hogan-Howe, and Washington, D.C., police Chief Cathy L. Lanier.
