A federal aviation agency announced Wednesday it is making $44.3 million available to the Inglewood Unified School District to insulate five campuses against airplane noise from Los Angeles International Airport.
The Federal Aviation Administration funds — which come from fees collected from commercial airplane passengers — will go to Woodworth Elementary School, Payne Elementary School, Oak Street Elementary School, Monroe Middle School and Morningside High School.
The grant will pay for the installation of thicker doors, interior acoustic ceiling tiles and other insulation measures that help maintain sound levels at 45 decibels or lower.
