A 16-year-old male student at Leuzinger High School was arrested for allegedly making a threat via social media that prompted authorities Thursday to provide extra security at neighboring Lawndale High School, the sheriff’s department reported.
About 9:45 p.m. Wednesday, the South Los Angeles Sheriff’s Station “was notified by residents that a threat had been made on a social media app indicating that a school shooting will take place at Lawndale High School (Thursday) …,” according to a statement from the Sheriff’s Information Bureau.
The sheriff’s department sent extra deputies to Lawndale High School Thursday as detectives conducted an investigation that led to the arrest of the Leuzinger High School student on suspicion of making criminal threats, said sheriff’s Lt. John Hocking. The boy’s name was not released because he’s a minor.
“The reason for the threat is still under investigation,” Hocking said.
