Detectives at the sheriff’s San Dimas station have arrested a juvenile in connection with threats posted on social media targeting a student at Lone Hill Middle School in San Dimas, authorities said Tuesday.

Detectives arrested the juvenile Monday, said Sgt. V. Gregory.

“The case has been turned over to the District Attorney’s office for consideration of filing charges,” she said.

The case came to light Friday and the sheriff’s department indicated it would begin its investigation by looking for suspicious middle school students.

The messages appeared to have been created by middle school students targeting one intended victim, the sheriff’s department said in a statement. The threats were directed at a particular girl, and there was no indication that other students might be at risk.

The victim’s age and name were not released.

Instagram and school officials cooperated with the investigation, and other students have been supportive of the victim, the sheriff’s department said. Some of the postings reportedly showed photos of weapons.
