Cal State Long Beach engineering students studying to build the next generation of aircraft are among the beneficiaries of Boeing Co.’s decision to donate various equipment formerly used to assemble C-17 Globemaster III aircraft.

“When the C-17 left, they said, ‘Hey, do you need anything?” Keith McIver, a Boeing employee who manages an on-campus lab where engineering students at CSULB study topics that may lead to employment with the aerospace firm, told the Press-Telegram. “We stole a whole bunch,” he added, jokingly.

Boeing ceased production of the C-17 military transport jet last year. After closing the plant, Boeing donated hand and power tools, as well as equipment such as air hoses, tool cabinets and tables to a dozen colleges and high schools, Boeing spokeswoman Tiffany Pitts Monday told the newspaper. Cerritos College and College of the Canyons in Santa Clarita were among the other schools to receive donated equipment.
