El Camino Real Charter High School students want answers in spending probe

Students at El Camino Real Charter High School rallied outside their school this morning, calling for accountability as administrators deal with a probe into spending on a school credit card.

Sixteen students chanted in support of the school’s future, waving signs such as “Save Our Charter,” the Los Angeles Daily News reported.

The possibility that the school could lose its charter came up in the midst of a probe into spending at the Woodland Hills campus, according to the newspaper.

The governing board of the Woodland Hills charter school commissioned the Chino Hills-based Oracle Investigations Group, Inc. in June to conduct an independent investigation after the Los Angeles Unified School District warned the school of possible financial violations last October, the Daily News reported.

Since then, LAUSD’s Board of Education has unanimously approved a “notice of violations” — the first step to potentially revoking the school’s charter. The notice alleged “fiscal mismanagement” related to administrators’ credit card spending and other issues, according to the Daily News.
