John Wolford threw two touchdown passes as the Los Angeles Rams defeated the Houston Texans, 22-10, Thursday evening in Houston in the preseason finale for both teams.

In a game both coaches did not play any expected regular-season starters, Wolford completed eight of 15 passes for 105 yards as he alternated series with Brandon Allen, who started for the second consecutive game.

Allen completed 12 of 17 passes for 120 yards and had two passes intercepted before a crowd at NRG Stadium announced at 71,162.

Wolford and Allen are likely competing for a spot on the Rams practice squad.

Wolford started seven of eight games for the Arizona Hotshots of the defunct Alliance of American Football earlier this year and was twice selected as the league’s player of the week. He played one preseason game for the New York Jets in 2018.

Allen has been with the Rams since 2017, but has never played a regular-season game for them. He spent the 2018 season on the practice squad.

All NFL teams must reduce their rosters to the 53-player regular-season limit by 1 p.m. Saturday.

The Rams (2-2) led 344-259 in total yardage, 23-14 in first downs and 32:13-27:47 in time of possession.

The Rams converted five of 12 third downs, 42%, and both their fourth downs. The Texans converted four of 13 third downs, 31% and one of two fourth downs.

Wolford threw a 12-yard touchdown pass to undrafted rookie tight end Kendall Blanton in the first quarter and a 15-yard touchdown pass to undrafted rookie receiver Nsimba Webster with 14 minutes, 10 seconds left in the fourth quarter.

Allen led the Rams on their other scoring drive, a 12-play, 59-yard drive that ended with Justin Davis’ 4-yard touchdown run. Davis also ran for the two-point conversion.

Davis ran for a game-high 78 yards on 16 carries, including a 28-yard run on the first play of the second half. Davis has played 15 games for the Rams the past two seasons, mainly on special teams, running for 20 yards on three carries.

Joe Webb threw a 5-yard touchdown pass to tight end Jerell Adams on the game’s opening possession for Houston (1-3).

The Texans other points came on a 39-yard field goal by UCLA alumnus Ka’imi Fairbairn 3:03 before halftime.

Webb completed 19 of 29 passes for 163 yards and one touchdown with one interception. He was sacked twice.

Undrafted rookie Jordan Ta’amu completed four of six passes for 21 yards with one interception in relief of Webb. He was sacked once.
