Crews Tuesday kept a blaze that started in the patio area of a San Fernando fourplex from causing major structural damage, but at least one pet cat perished.

The fire was reported at 5:07 p.m. at the two-story fourplex in the 900 block of North Griswold Avenue, near the Pacoima Wash, according to Brian Humphrey of the Los Angeles Fire Department.

The fire “minimally extended” beyond the patio into the back of the building before being extinguished in 32 minutes by nearly three dozen firefighters, he said.

A pet cat died in the building, another was rescued and resuscitated with oxygen, and a third feline was missing, Humphrey said.

Investigators determined that the fire was caused by a large battery charging on the patio, he said.
