The Big West Conference Thursday announced the cancellations of its men’s and women’s basketball tournaments in Anaheim due to concerns about the coronavirus.

“The main priority of the Big West Conference continues to be the health, safety and wellness of our student-athletes, coaches, administrators, fans and media as we continue to monitor all developing and relevant information on the COVID-19 virus,” according to a statement from the conference.

The men’s tournament was scheduled to begin play Thursday at Honda Center with four quarterfinal games, all without spectators.

The women’s tournament was scheduled to resume Friday with two semifinal games will be played Friday at Honda Center. It began Tuesday with two first-round games at the Walter Pyramid at Cal State Long Beach. Two quarterfinal games were played at Walter Pyramid Wednesday.

Numerous other conferences, including the Pac-12, have also canceled their tournaments because of the coronavirus.
