City Councilman John Lee was still clinging to the 50% threshold required to avoid a runoff in his Council District 12 race against challenger Loraine Lundquist, according to the latest tally of votes released Tuesday from the March 3 primary election.
The latest update on Tuesday showed Lee with 50.88% of the vote (32,597 votes), to 49.32% for Lundquist (31,724 votes), an educator and astrophysicist.
Lee needs to finish with more than 50% of the vote to avoid a runoff.
According to Tuesday’s update, released by the county Registrar-Recorder/County Clerk’s Office, 2,071,929 votes have been counted, which is 37.58% of eligible Los Angeles County voters.
The next vote-counting update is scheduled to be released Friday.
