A second USC athlete has tested positive for the coronavirus in the two weeks since it started testing, the university announced Friday.

The athlete was experiencing symptoms of COVID-19 and put in isolation, according to a USC Athletics statement.

Neither the player’s name nor sport were disclosed.

Through the second week of on-campus voluntary workouts, USC has conducted 126 tests on returning athletes who live in the Los Angeles area, including those in football, men’s water polo, women’s soccer, women’s volleyball, men’s basketball and women’s basketball.

The figure includes those tested for the first time before beginning voluntary workouts and those retested this week as part of the weekly retesting process.

USC had announced June 26 of a positive test of an athlete whose name and sport were not disclosed. That athlete is no longer in isolation.

USC will continue to closely monitor and conduct regular testing of any student-athletes returning to voluntary workouts.
