The crash that killed a pedestrian on the Golden State (5) Freeway in the Cypress Park area of Los Angeles also injured a passenger in the car that struck him, authorities said Sunday.

The crash was reported at 11:08 p.m. Friday on the northbound Golden State Freeway just south of Pasadena Avenue, according to California Highway Patrol Officer J. Jimenez.

The pedestrian, “for an unknown reason,” crossed into the path of a 2020 Mercedes CLS450 driven by a 30-year-old Northridge man, Jimenez said. The 29-year-old Glendale woman in the passenger seat suffered lacerations to her face and hands and was taken by paramedics to County USC Medical Center.

The pedestrian was pronounced dead at the scene, Jimenez said. He remained a John Doe pending notification of relatives, the officer said.
