The Port of Long Beach announced Thursday that nonprofits can apply starting March 1 to receive funding for events that help teach the community about the port.
The Port of Long Beach’s Community Sponsorship Program’s application period runs through 5 p.m. March 31, and the Board of Harbor Commissioners will announce the list of funded events in June.
Events and activities will be judged on how they will help the port inform residents about the port’s role in the economy and as a job creator.
Applications should demonstrate how port funds will:
— support the maritime-related initiatives;
— provide meaningful education to the community about the port and international trade; or
— provide an opportunity for extensive Port promotion and recognition.
Applicants are advised to ensure their programs follow social distancing protocols or are virtual.
Applicants should also only apply with events that are scheduled to take place on June 1 or later, port officials said. There will be a second round of applications in September for sponsorship for events and projects that take place on Dec. 1 or later.
Last September, the Long Beach Board of Harbor Commissioners funded 89 projects totaling $396,450.
