A fire that erupted Wednesday near a high school in Winchester charred four acres before it was stopped.
The non-injury blaze was reported about 4 p.m. in the area of Garbani and Leon roads, just north of Liberty High School, according to the Riverside County Fire Department.
Fire officials said crews encountered flames burning at a moderate rate through medium grass, approaching two structures on the perimeter of the campus, where classes had finished for the day.
A Cal Fire air tanker and water-dropping helicopter made runs on the fire, stopping its forward rate of spread at 4:25 p.m., according to reports from the scene.
No structures were damaged, and the blaze was fully contained by 5 p.m.
The cause of the fire was under investigation.
