A motorist in a pickup was chased by authorities Thursday through the Pomona area, where he veered into oncoming traffic and slammed head-on into an approaching vehicle.

The crash occurred shortly before 2 p.m. Thursday at Mission Boulevard and Brea Place. The motorist in the other vehicle walked away from the crash and did not appear to be seriously injured.

The suspect in a silver/gray pickup remained inside his vehicle, defying orders from surrounding officers to exit following the crash. About 15 minutes later, however, officers appeared to fire some type of non-lethal projectile at the vehicle, and a short time later, they approached the truck and pulled the suspect out.

The man was visibly bleeding from the head, likely due to injuries sustained in the crash.

According to reports from the scene, the pursuit involved officers from Rialto and Fontana, along with the California Highway Patrol. KTLA5 reported the suspect was originally wanted for some type of vandalism.

A dog had been in the pickup with the suspect, but during the chase, the animal could be seen either falling, jumping or being thrown from the truck. The dog did not appear to be injured, but it was not immediately clear if the animal was recovered.
