Urologic oncologist Dr. Scott Eggener has been appointed the chair of Urology at UCLA’s David Geffen School of Medicine and the UCLA Health System’s executive medical director for urology, the university announced Monday.

Eggener is a physician-scientist who brings knowledge of prostate, testicular, and kidney cancers to UCLA, university officials said.

Prior to being appointed as the chair of urology, Eggener served as a professor of surgery and vice chair of urology at the University of Chicago, according to UCLA Health. He was the founding director of the High-Risk and Advanced Prostate Cancer Clinic at the University of Chicago.

Eggener has received numerous awards and his research has led to more than 350 journal publications. The urologic oncologist received his medical degree at Stanford University School of Medicine.

“I am honored to join UCLA Health and lead a department with such a distinguished legacy in patient care, research and education,” Eggener said in a statement released by the university. “I am invigorated by all the exciting opportunities and talented people.”
