A “topping out” ceremony for the $79 million Student Success Center at the Palm Desert Campus of Cal State San Bernardino has been held, campus officials announced Wednesday.

University administrators, elected officials, students, faculty, staff and alumni on Tuesday signed the last steel beam to be placed on the building, marking the completion of the structural frame for the building set to open in 2027.

“Each signature on that beam represents a commitment to the students we serve now and the thousands more who will follow,” Edna Martinez, the campus’ associate vice president, said in a statement. “This center will be a hub for connection, wellness and opportunity, and it underscores our vision to grow this campus in ways that reflect the needs and dreams of our region,” said

The 23,700-square-foot state-funded facility will include an advising and tutoring center, a career center, an expanded campus library and group study spaces, a cross-cultural center, a campus bookstore, a student health center and recreation and wellness spaces.

“We know that students’ needs will change over time, and therefore, we have a building which aims to serve them as their needs evolve into the future,” said CSUSB President Tomas Morales.
