A Mecca man and two teenagers were behind bars Friday for allegedly fatally shooting an 18-year-old man in the community of Mecca.

Daniel Ernesto Molina, 20, was booked Wednesday into the Benoit Detention Center on suspicion of murder. A 16-year-old boy and a 17-year-old boy, both from Mecca, were booked into Juvenile Hall on suspicion of assault with a deadly weapon, causing great bodily injury, according to the Riverside County Sheriff’s Department.

Bail information on all three suspects was not immediately available.

On March 24, at 7:58 p.m., deputies responded to a report of an assault with a deadly weapon at the intersection of Coahuilla and Sixth streets.

They found an individual suffering from apparent gunshot wounds, but was later pronounced dead at the scene.

Authorities identified the victim as Anjel Rodriguez of Thermal.

On Wednesday, Molina and the 17-year-old were taken into custody without incident in Mecca, and authorities found the 16-year-old in Indio who was also taken into custody without incident.

It was not specified how the three individuals were identified as suspects.
