The California School for the Deaf, Riverside has earned a special honor, and will celebrate with a ribbon-cutting ceremony on Monday.

The ceremony to celebrate the Blue Zones Project Approved School designation was scheduled at 9 a.m. in front of the Brill Building on the CSDR campus, at 3044 Horace St.

The recognition reflects CSDR’s ongoing commitment to creating a school environment in which wellness, connection, accessibility and belonging are woven into everyday campus life, school officials announced.

“This recognition is a celebration of our entire CSDR community,” said Superintendent April McArthur. “Our students and staff thrive when they feel connected, supported and valued. Earning the Blue Zones Project Approved designation reflects the culture of care and belonging that continues to grow across our campuses. We are proud to stand alongside Blue Zones Project Riverside in building healthier futures for our students and families.”

The Blue Zones Project is an internationally recognized well-being initiative inspired by communities around the world where people live the longest and healthiest lives. The initiative works with schools, organizations and cities to create environments that support healthier choices and stronger social connection.

“This milestone represents much more than a designation,” said Lauren Payne of Blue Zones Project Riverside. “It reflects the heart of our school community and the collective work of students, staff, families and partners who believe wellness and belonging matter. We are grateful to the Green Paw Committee for helping bring this vision to life at CSDR.”

California School for the Deaf, Riverside was founded in 1953 and serves deaf and hard-of-hearing students from across Southern California in bilingual ASL-English educational environment focused on academic excellence, leadership, wellness, athletics, arts and career readiness.
