The Coachella Valley Unified School District announced Friday the district’s governing board approved a resolution to express its opposition to data center development within district boundaries.
“The resolution reflects the governing board’s commitment to protecting the educational interests, health, safety and well-being of students, staff and families. It also recognizes concerns about the potential impacts data centers may have on local water resources, electrical infrastructure, environmental quality, community sustainability and the operations of CVUSD schools,” according to a district statement.
The resolution was approved during a Board of Education meeting Thursday.
District officials said that while the district does not have any authority over data centers, their uses or the locations where centers can be developed, the governing board may adopt resolutions to affirm their position on matters that may affect the quality of life for students, parents and staff.
