A teenager was taken into custody Wednesday for allegedly possessing a firearm following an altercation among students at Santee High School in Los Angeles, prompting the campus to go on a temporary lockdown, officials said.
The school at 1921 South Maple Ave. was placed under a temporary lockdown that was lifted around 10:45 a.m. Wednesday, when students were able to resume their regular instructional schedule.
“We are continuing to investigate this incident and will take action in accordance with the findings of our investigation,” Los Angeles School Police Department spokesman Jorge Herrera said, noting that students are reminded not to bring dangerous items to campus, including those that may resemble or imitate a dangerous object.
Herrera added that the student was taken into custody without incident and that the student’s parents were notified, with the matter being addressed in accordance with Los Angeles Unified School District policy.
“We take the safety and security of our students and our campus very seriously. This is an opportunity for parents and guardians to discuss with their children the importance of using good judgment and avoiding dangerous activities,” he said.
