Students were released early from Raymond Cree Middle School in Palm Springs Monday due to issues with the air conditioning amid triple-digit heat.
The campus, located at 1011 E. Vista Chino, had a water main break problem that affected the air conditioning system over the weekend, school officials said.
The school sent a message to parents Monday morning saying students were being allowed to leave campus early as a precautionary health and safety move. The messaged urged parents to pick up their children as of 11:15 a.m. Any children not picked up will remain in one of the “cool areas of the campus for the remainder of the day” and be released at the usual time.
According to the National Weather Service, Palm Springs was expected to have a high temperature of 102 degrees on Monday.
Classes were expected to resume Tuesday, and parents will be provided any further updates.
