Two schools in Palm Desert were placed on lockdown Friday in response to a nearby law enforcement investigation, but the area was later cleared and students were released without incident.
Palm Desert High School, located at 74910 Aztec Road, and Sacred Heart School, at 43775 Deep Canyon Road, were placed on lockdown for an unspecified amount of time Friday afternoon, according to a social media post by the Riverside County Sheriff’s Department Palm Desert Station.
“There is currently a heavy law enforcement presence in the area of Deep Canyon Road and Moss Ross Lane,” the agency wrote in the post Friday afternoon.
It was unclear what prompted the law enforcement activity, but KESQ reported that a burglary had been reported in the area, leading to a search of the area by sheriff’s deputies. The search later concluded with no suspects located, the station reported.
At 2:43 p.m., sheriff’s officials reported that students at both schools were released with “no further public safety threat present.”
