A wildfire that broke out near the Jacqueline Cochran Regional Airport in Thermal is 40% contained Friday and spread to 50 acres.
The fire started at around 10 p.m. Thursday south of Airport Boulevard and west of Grapefruit Boulevard.
An evacuation order for the area was issued by Cal Fire, but it was lifted around 3:30 a.m. Friday.
Firefighters will remain on-scene throughout the night, working to contain the fire.
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
There were 21 engines, one dozer and three water tenders assigned to fight the fire.
The fire led to road closures in Thermal. They are:
— Main Street from Grapefruit Boulevard to Church Street;
— Kokell Avenue from Grapefruit Boulevard to Polk Street;
— 59th Avenue from Fillmore Street to Polk Street;
— 60th Avenue to Fillmore Street and Polk Street.
