Firefighters contained a fire in a vacant mobile home Tuesday in Thousand Palms that prompted the evacuation about 30 cats and 50 dogs from a nearby animal shelter.
The fire was reported shortly after 9:30 a.m. in the 72300 block of Varner Road, according to the Riverside County Fire Department.
No injuries were reported among people or animals, authorities said.
Crews from SoCal Gas and Southern California Edison were requested to assist at the scene.
Fire crews were expected to remain on-site for two to three hours to conduct salvage and overhaul operations.
The cause of the fire was under investigation.
