A van was destroyed in a fire Tuesday in Mead Valley that spread into vegetation before it was stopped.

The non-injury blaze was reported about 1:20 p.m. in the 22100 block of Marquez Road, near Day Street, according to the Riverside County Fire Department.

The agency said that multiple engine crews were sent to the location and encountered flames raging in the van, spreading into surrounding vegetation, where a refuse pile also caught fire.

Nearby residences were not impacted.

Crews contained the blaze roughly 20 minutes later and began mopping up.

The cause of the fire was under investigation.
