A battery caught fire at an automobile service station in the Mid-City area of Los Angeles Tuesday, but no injuries were reported.
The fire was reported at 12:23 p.m. Tuesday at the Audi Beverly Hills service station at 2340 S. Fairfax Ave., according to Margaret Stewart of the Los Angeles Fire Department.
The first arriving crews encountered light smoke coming from the large commercial building and quickly located the burning lithium-ion battery, Stewart said.
The battery was put on an engine lift outside the building, which had smoke inside, but no fire, she said.
Crews used blowers to clear the smoke from the building and a hazardous materials team was summoned, as is standard in cases where such batteries catch fire, Stewart said.
