Los Angeles Fire Department firefighters knocked down a fire at a vacant strip mall Thursday where flames were shooting through the roof of multiple units in the Vermont Square area of Los Angeles.

Fire crews responded at 1:52 a.m Thursday to 985 W. 43rd St. and Vermont Avenue to the strip mall, where they used master streams to battle the flames from outside the building, said LAFD spokeswoman Lyndsey Lantz.

It took 37 firefighters 30 minutes to extinguish the fire and companies remained on scene for overhaul.

Two occupants were inside an unburned portion of the building during operations, said LAFD.

No injuries were reported.
