Crews put out a non-injury fire Friday in a Craftsman-style home in San Pedro and rescued a dog in the process.

The fire was reported at 5:54 a.m. at 1108 W Santa Cruz St., according to the Los Angeles County Fire Department.

Firefighters arrived to find heavy fire at the two-story structure with flames extending to a neighboring home.

“Firefighters operated at both homes in the offensive mode, coordinating roof and interior operations,” said LAFD spokeswoman Lyndsey Lantz. ” A broken gas line was found leaking pressurized gas during suppression operations.”

The line was shut down and the dog was found alive and well during a search of the premises, she said.

Forty-seven firefighters responded and had the fire out in 32 minutes, Lantz said.
