A large fire erupted at a commercial building in Compton Tuesday, sending a thick plume of smoke over the area.
The fire was reported about 11 a.m. in a one-story commercial building in the 2400 block of North Alameda Street, according to the Los Angeles County Fire Department.
Flames could be seen burning through the roof of the building and the fire sent up a vertical column that was visible for miles in relatively windless conditions.
County fire crews were providing assistance to the Compton Fire Department in battling the blaze.
