An investigation was continuing Tuesday into the cause of a fire that affected 20 apartments and displaced numerous residents in Murrieta.
The blaze was reported at 1:48 p.m. Monday at the Waterstone Apartments, located near the intersection of Hancock Avenue and Las Brias Road, according to Murrieta Fire and Rescue.
The fire quickly went to a second alarm due to the intensity of the flames, and additional resources were dispatched to the scene.
The American Red Cross was requested to assist with the displaced residents. It was unclear how many people were displaced, or if there were any injuries.
The blaze marked the third structure fire in the city that day and the second two-alarm fire within 12 hours, officials said.
The agency urged residents to test smoke alarms monthly and replace any that are more than 10 years old.
