A wind-driven brush fire raced across more than 300 acres near Lancaster Thursday, prompting evacuation warnings and shelter-in-place orders, but crews were able to halt the spread of the blaze by mid-afternoon and no injuries were reported.
The fire was reported at 1:06 p.m. near 230th Street West and West Avenue C8, according to Cal Fire.
As the fire grew in size, driven by winds out of the west at roughly 10 mph, evacuation warnings were issued across a wide area, covering a swath stretching from 280th Street West to 170th Street West, south of West Avenue A.
Several structures were threatened by the flames, but there were no reports of any actual structural damage. Shortly before 3 p.m., fire officials announced that the fire’s spread had been halted, with the blaze mapped at about 335 acres. Crews remained on the scene working to fully douse the flames.
