A carport fire quickly spread to a two-story residence to its rear in Westlake, in an area south of Echo Park, and may be uninhabitable, the Los Angeles Fire Department said Thursday.
Fire crews responded at 10: 53 p.m. Wednesday to 214 N. Benton Way, south of West Temple Street and the Hollywood (101) Freeway, where they found the flames had spread from the carport to the dwelling, said LAFD spokeswoman Lyndsey Lantz.
A total of 80 firefighters battled the blaze and extinguished it in 31 minutes.
But given the damage done by the fire, the condition of the buildings must be assessed for safety. Lantz said representatives from the Los Angeles Department of Building and Safety and Los Angeles Department of Water and Power have been requested to access the physical state of the buildings.
All residents of the buildings were safely evacuated, Lantz said. No injuries were reported.
Fire crews will remain at the scene for salvage and overhaul duties, the LAFD said.
